Scarecrows against GM contamination

Despite overwhelming opposition, the Government looks set to allow GM crops to be grown in the UK. It has now started looking at what contamination and liability rules will be needed - like separation distances from non-GM crops.

Alarmingly, it seems that the Government is intending to support weak regulations that will allow widespread GM contamination of non-GM crops and food. This would be a disaster for farmers and consumers - as it would take away our right to choose GM free.

The Government is consulting over this now, so we have the opportunity to make it very clear that any GM contamination is unacceptable. Friends of the Earth has launched a campaign focused around using scarecrows to highlight to the public, MPs and other elected representatives and the Government, the need to protect crops and food from GM contamination.
